Forecasters say more powerful thunderstorms with strong winds and heavy rain could affect portions of Massachusetts and Rhode Island Monday as storms push across New England, with the possibility of localized flooding and other damage.
Storms caused damage and power outages in parts of western Massachusetts on Sunday. Heavy rains flooded roads and basements in Worcester. The Telegram Gazette reports that some motorists became stuck in the downtown area as the waters rapidly rose. Flooding was also reported on Interstate 290.
The violent thunderstorms in western Massachusetts left thousands of homes and businesses temporarily without power.
Agawam police said downed trees and power lines left several roads impassable after the storm.
