Study finds Rhode Island companies lacking in internships

A new, independent study released by the program finds 30 percent of Rhode Island companies host interns.

The study looked at companies with more than three employees.

The study also found 91 percent of those same companies value internships on a potential employee's resume.

Many employers said they couldn't afford to pay or supervise an intern, or don't need them.

The program is a joint venture of the Rhode Island Student Loan Authority, the Governor's Workforce Board,{}state colleges and universities, and various other groups.

As a result of the study, group are aggressively working to develop new internship opportunities.
