A third suspect admitted Thursday to his part in the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old girl outside a Providence graduation party.

Angel Valerio, 19, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy. Murder charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement.

Aynis Vargas was shot and killed at a graduation party on Hartford Avenue on June 15. She was standing outside a home with a group of women when someone came up and started shooting. Three women with her were shot and survived.

Prosecutors said the shooting was motivated by a gang dispute. They say 21-year-old Branden Castro was the triggerman. They say Castro got out of a van and opened fire on the group.

Four others have been charged in the case.

Two of the men previously admitted to their roles in the shooting. Ricardo Vasquez, 21, pleaded guilty in September and was sentenced to life in prison. Luis Gonzalez, 18, pleaded guilty in March to assault charges.
