Suspect in bank robberies talks back to judge
CRANSTON, R.I. —
A man suspected in two bank robberies in Cranston lashed out Friday during his arraignment in Kent County District Court.
Vaughn Watrous's outbursts interrupted proceedings several times while he faced charges of robbing a Sovereign Bank on Wednesday and a Citizens Bank on Thursday.
Swearing at the judge as apparently the last straw. The judge held Watrous in contempt of court and sentenced him to 60 days at the ACI.
"Ooh. That's terrible," Watrous replied.
Also arraigned was an alleged co-conspirator who was identified by the court as Sao Te. He is accused of taking a cab with Watrous to one of the heists and holding the cab while Watrous allegedly robbed the bank.
Both men are due in court on Feb. 21 for pretrial hearings.
