Suspect still at large in Saturday robberies
SCITUATE, R.I. —
Police are asking for the public's help in the search for a suspect who is alleged to have committed two armed robberies of convenience stores early Saturday morning.
The Rhode Island State Police, Coventry Police, West Greenwich Police, Cranston Police, and Warwick Police are actively attempting to locate the second suspect who is believed to be one of two suspects that was armed with handguns and robbed the Shell gas station on Pontiac Avenue in Cranston; approximately one hour later the same two suspects are alleged to have robbed the Xtra Mart store on Tiogue Avenue in Coventry.
The Rhode Island State Police tell NBC 10 that the extensive multi- agency search that was conducted Saturday did result in one of the suspects being apprehended inside a local Dunkin Donuts in Warwick, around 7:45 Saturday morning. He was arrested by the Rhode Island State Police and was taken into custody without incident.
The second suspect is still at large and may be armed. He is described by police as approximately 5'10 and was last seen wearing a black down jacket with the North Face logo, light grey or brown pants (possibly sweat pants) and brown shoes. Anyone who may see any him or any suspicious activity in and around the area are asked to observe, do not approach, and dial 911.
