Third Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic raises over $350,000
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. —
The third annual Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic wrapped up Tuesday at the Carnegie Abbey Club.
Celebrities including Magic Johnson, Julius Irving, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Cedric the Entertainer, Smokey Robinson, Chris Tucker and Doc Rivers took part in the three day event that started with celebrity softball at McCoy Stadium on Sunday. That raised $50,000 for the Jeffrey Osborne Foundation.
A silent auction on Monday night raised over $300,000 as well, according to a spokesperson Tuesday.
"What better place to give back than the place you were born and raised so it's the greatest feeling I could ever have," said Osborne, the Grammy nominated R&B artist born in Providence.
New England Patriots Hall of Fame corner back Ty Law said, "Anytime you can get involved in something that's going to help the development and advancement of young children and young adults it's always worth it."
Osborne said he reached out to President Barack Obama but could not get him to change his Martha's Vineyard vacation plans.
