Two-alarm fire forces partial evacuation of senior high rise
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. —
Between two and three dozen senior citizens had to be evacuated, when fire hit the Tripp Towers in New Bedford Friday night.
District Fire Chief James Clark tells NBC 10 News the fire began on the 9th floor of the 10 story building on Ruth St. at about 8:30 p.m.Dist. Chief Clark says four engines and 3 ladder trucks responded.Heavy smoke was reported on the top floors.Clark says the building's sprinklers helped contain the fire to one unit., although a few apartments suffered water damage.
One woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
At least one other person needed medical attention, but was not transported.
The fire was traced back to food on a stove.
