Two Saturday store robberies being investigated

One of the suspects wanted in a robbery at an Atra Mart store in Coventry has been arrested by State Police in Warwick Saturday morning.

According to the Warwick Police Department who assisted in the search, State Police arrested the suspect around 7:45 Saturday morning on Route 117 in Warwick.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and the search for the second suspect continues at this time according to police.

The suspect's identity has not yet been released by the State Police.

Cranston and Coventry police are investigating convenience store robberies, that occurred Saturday morning.

The Shell station on Pontiac Ave. was held up at about 12:40 a.m. Police have yet to say what was taken in the holdup, or if anyone was injured.

Less than an hour later, two men held up the ExtraMart on Tiogue Ave. Coventry police told us no weapon was shown.

As officers arrived, they saw a vehicle leaving the store at a high rate of speed.They pursued the vehicle on to Route 95, but broke off the chase.

The vehicle was spotted later, abandoned, on I-95, near exit 10.

A search was conducted through Warwick and West Warwick for two suspects. A state police K-9 unit also joined

the search.

Police are trying to determine whether the robberies were related.
