A redshirt freshman quarterback at the University of Rhode Island was arrested and charged with assault Friday night while attending an all-day concert in Maryland where two people died.

Lucas Casey, 19, of Columbia, Maryland, was arraigned Saturday in Howard County District Court. He was charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and two counts of possession of false identification. Casey posted bond and was released.

A representative from Howard County Police said Casey was arrested and charged at the Mad Decent Block Party at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.

Police said two people died and 18 more were recovering from apparent drug overdoses at the concert. Police said 20 people were hospitalized and 50 alcohol citations were issued at the event.

The events leading up to Casey's arrest were not immediately known.

"We were made aware of the situation on Monday morning and are gathering more information at this time," URI Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn said in a statement.

Casey signed a letter of intent to play football for the Rams in February 2013.

Casey played football at Athloton High School in Columbia and captained the football team in 2012-13. He led the team to 10-2 records both years and was honored with the team MVP award in both seasons.
