URI student selling Red Sox grand slam ball

A University of Rhode Island student is selling the grand slam ball that propelled the Boston Red Sox into the World Series.

California-based SCP Auctions says it's been enlisted to auction the ball hit by outfielder Shane Victorino in the clinching Game 6 of the American League Championship Series at Fenway Park.

The Sox were down 2-1 to Detroit when Victorino hit the grand slam into the seats behind the Green Monster, where Nick Wood was sitting. The 23-year-old senior from Westborough, Mass., was celebrating when a security guard yelled that the ball was rolling around at his feet.

In a release sent Friday by the auction house, Wood says he's a lifelong Sox fan but not much of a memorabilia collector.

Bidding is from Nov. 20 through Dec. 7.
