Volunteers help clean up state beach

Volunteers of all ages gathered Sunday morning and afternoon for the sixth annual East Matunuck State Beach clean-up. Families and other beach-goers tell NBC 10 that they love the beach and use it often during the summer, so donating one day to help get it ready is worth the effort. According to Dave Prescott of Save The Bay, "Over 150 volunteers showed up and helped clean up the East Matunuck State Beach, Potter Pond shoreline, and Succotash salt marsh. Approximately 3000-4000 pounds of trash was removed from our shoreline. The majority of trash consisted of lobster traps, fishing debris, plastics, corroded metal, etc."The Matunuck Oyster Bar provided lunch for the volunteers as a thank you for their efforts and local families are looking forward being back by the water in the coming months.
