Walmart damaged by fire expected to reopen Friday

A Walmart store in Newport damaged by a fire that was deliberately set is scheduled to reopen Friday.

On Monday, a store manager said the store was going to open Tuesday. However, a Walmart representative said the date was changed to Friday.

The fire at the store on J.T. Connell Highway on Feb. 17 was contained to two aisles, but did enough damage for it to be close.

No injuries were reported.

George Reddick, 58, of New York City, has been charged with setting the fire.

Investigators said surveillance video showed Reddick asking a store worker about a job and changing clothes while inside.
