Water main break floods downtown street

Providence city officials said a water line inside a downtown building ruptured early Tuesday, flooding the first floor and spilling out onto the street.

About 6 inches of water was seen rushing down Westminster Street at about 2 a.m.

The Providence Water Supply Board shut off the water while repairs were made to the line inside 20 Westminster St.

Fire crews also checked the area for a natural gas leak but confirmed there wasn't one.
