Westerly man, 20, faces child pornography charges
A 20-year-old Westerly man who works at the YMCA was charged Thursday with possession and transmission of child pornography.
State police said they searched the cell phone of 20-year-old Dana Gingerelli and found digital images of child pornography.
Gingerelli is currently employed at the Ocean Community YMCA in Westerly and has worked as a counselor at Camp Harrington, a children's camp in Boylston, Mass.
YMCA Executive Director Maureen Fitzgerald told NBC 10 that Gingerelli was suspended immediately and indefinitely.
NBC 10's calls to Camp Harrington in Boylston were not immediately returned.
Gingerelli has been living at a home in Westerly with extended family, including a 2-year-old cousin. The boy's mother said she was "dumbfounded" by the charges and that Gingerelli was great with kids.
Gingerelli told the judge in court that he may be moving to Massachusetts to live with one of his parents. his mother lives in Millbury and his father in Boylston.
As a condition of bail, Gingerelli is not allowed to live with anyone under 18 years old and is banned from using the Internet.
He is scheduled to return to court in April.
