Woman, 82, describes alleged sexual assault by pastor

Rolando Rodriguez

An 82-year-old woman said she waited five days to report an alleged sexual assault by her pastor because she was embarrassed, according to a Pawtucket police report obtained Friday by NBC 10 News.

Rolando Rodriguez, 45, was charged with second-degree sexual assault. He is the pastor of Light and Hope Methodist Church on Summit Street.

The alleged victim said she trusted Rodriguez because he had been her pastor since March, but shortly after he arrived unannounced at her Pawtucket home on July 17, she said that trust turned to terror.

Her account of the alleged encounter was included in the police report.

"Pastor Rodriguez then suddenly jumped up, hugged her tightly, and grabbed both of her arms while standing over her ... then began rubbing his genital area over her chest and face ... She then bit Pastor Rodriguez," the police report said.

The report said the alleged victim suffered cuts, bruises and severe embarrassment.

The Pawtucket police Internal Affairs Division is investigating the woman's family's claim that no report was taken about the alleged sexual assault, despite several attempts to make one.
