A woman shopping with her 4-year-old daughter was carjacked in the parking lot of a Providence supermarket.
Police said the man jumped into the passenger seat of Sayasone Louendapsay's car at an Aldi market on Smith Street at about 4 p.m. Monday.
"He said, 'I'm gonna' take your baby,'" she said.
Maj. David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department described the man as about 5-feet, 8-inches to 5-feet, 10-inches tall wearing a white shirt, blue jeans and dark glasses.
"(He) reached in and tried to take her purse. He dragged her out of the car," Lapatin said.
Louendapsay reluctantly gave up her purse which contained jewelry and almost $4,000. She said the money was set aside to fix her boyfriend's car.
Police said Louendapsay was able to get her daughter out of the back seat before the man took off in the car.
Investigators later found her car on Hudson Street in Providence.
"I want police to catch him so bad," Louendapsay said.
No arrests have been made.
