Woman who died in fire was trying to save dog
WARWICK, R.I. —
A woman who was killed when fire swept through her home in Warwick was identified Friday as Nancy Cadorette.
The fire began in a converted garage at 82 Spofford Ave. at about 10 a.m. Thursday. There were two people in the building at the time.
Police said Cadorette, 61, died when she ran back into the burning building to rescue her dog.
Fellow pet owners said they understand why she would go back in.
"It's just like having a family. If you have no one else with you, and you don't have family members and you're attatched to your dog, that's how it is," said one neighbor.
The dog also died in the fire.
Arson investigators said they cannot speculate about the cause of the fire until they've finished their investigation. They brought in an arson dog from Massachusetts to help with their work.
