Woonsocket store may be forced to leave the city
WOONSOCKET, R.I. —
A major Woonsocket business may be forced to leave the city.
Published reports say the owners of the Woonsocket Plaza say they cannot afford to renew its lease with Burlington Coat Factory, without a major tax break.
And,if Burlington leaves, several other smaller tenants reportedly may also vacate the plaza.
According to the Woonsocket Call, the other stores have "co-tenancy" agreements tied to Burlington, which is the Plaza's anchor store.
The paper says the strip mall is the city's fourth- largest taxpayer, after CVS/Ca remark, National Grid and Walnut Hill Plaza.
