Woonsocket's school superintendent will be let go at the end of August.
The city Budget Commission voted against renewing the contract of Giovanna Donoyan. She was superintendent in Woonsocket since 2011.
The Call reported that the Budget Commission canceled a nine-month contract extension and that Donoyan's contract will not be renewed when it expires Aug.30.
The state created the Budget Commission after a deficit was found in the school department. The deficit was discovered shortly after Donoyan took the job.
She's credited with restoring full-time kindergarten in Woonsocket.
