Korean Week: Beef bulgogi
Yield: 4-6 servings
1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced
5 tablespoons soy sauce
2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
1/4 cup scallion, chopped
2 tablespoons garlic, peeled and minced
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Method of preparation
1. Place the beef in a shallow dish. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, green onion, garlic, sesame seeds, sesame oil, and ground black pepper. Pour over beef. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight.
2. Preheat an outdoor grill on high heat, or skillet if preferred. Lightly oil the grate or skillet.
3. Quickly grill beef on hot grill until slightly charred and cooked through, 1-2 minutes per side.
4. If using a skillet; place meat in skillet away from you to prevent any splashing of oil. Cook until slightly charred and cooked through, 1-2 minutes per side.
