IIHS releases new booster seat rankings

An estimated 51 million of us are planning to hit the road this week, many traveling with young passengers in tow.

Just in time, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is out with new booster seat recommendations.

Thirteen of the 16 seats tested earned high marks. Top-rated models include the Chicco Go Fit and the Cosco Finale.

The only booster seat the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety doesn’t recommend is the Safety 1st Summit by Dorel.

Experts say, when properly fitted, a good booster seat can make a huge difference in a crash.

"We know that for kids that are 4 to 8 years old that they are 45 percent less likely to sustain serious injury when they are in booster seat than when they are in the safety belt alone,” says Jessica Jermakian, a senior research engineer for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
