Cranston Mayor Allan Fung has appointed an independent investigator to look into alleged excessive parking tickets being issued as retribution of a rejected police contract.
A couple of weeks ago, the NBC 10 I-Team requested all the overnight parking tickets issued before the city council's Finance Committee rejected a proposed police contract.
The I-Team received word that Stephen Antonucci, the head of the Cranston police union, either asked or ordered officers to issue tickets in Wards 1 and 3.
The two Wards were represented by city councilmen who voted to reject the proposed contract.
The day before the council rejection vote, 18 tickets were issued in Ward 1 and Ward 3. But for the three days after the rejection vote, 106 tickets were issued.
