NBC 10 I-Team: Parent catches man performing alleged sex act outside high school
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) —
The NBC 10 I-Team has confirmed through the Providence Police Department that detectives have sought and are in the process of getting an arrest warrant for a 76-year-old man accused of performing a sex act while alone in a car on himself outside a high school.
A father picking up his teenaged daughter and some friends outside LaSalle Academy noticed a man who he suspected was masturbating in his car on Academy Avenue on Thursday around 2 p.m.
The incident has been described in detail on Facebook and posted there with pictures of the man and his blue Volvo with Rhode Island tags.
Joe Powers, the father who took the pictures, wrote that "he saw me walking up on his car so he quickly put his hand on the steering wheel.”
As Powers approached the car shooting video, he wrote on Facebook that he had to use every ounce of self-restraint not to attack the man. His daughter was just off in the distance.
When Powers got right up next to the Volvo, he captured video of the man, who was wearing sunglasses, a T-shirt and nothing else.
“I realized later he didn't have any pants on at all,” Powers wrote on Facebook.
Providence Police Maj. David Lapatin said detectives identified the man and are in the process of getting an arrest warrant.
The man is from Rhode Island, according to an NBC 10 I-Team source. He told police he was urinating into a bottle because of medical problems. However, the video shot by Powers tells a different story, said a source.
The man will likely be charged with one count of disorderly conduct.
