The Woonsocket Police Department has issued arrest warrants for a man allegedly involved in a condo renting scheme.

Chief Thomas Oates on Monday told the NBC 10 I-Team his department has four felony warrants and one misdemeanor warrant for 44-year-old John Willette.

Willette has been accused of showing several different prospective tenants a condo at the Red Mill Lofts on Blakely Street and walking off with their cash deposits and first month’s rent.

The estimated amount of money he’s allegedly stolen totals around $16,000.

Willette spoke to the NBC 10 I-Team on Friday and admits he took money from multiple prospective tenants, but disputes the amount. He then hung up abruptly.

Oates said Willette had been expected to surrender to police on Monday, but never showed up.

Willette is now a wanted man. Police told the NBC 10 I-Team they believe he is in New England.
