NBC 10 I-Team: State, local investigation of accusations against daycare staff member
EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WJAR) —
The NBC 10 I-Team has confirmed state investigators with the Department of Children, Youth and Families are investigating a complaint that a staff member of the Early Learning Centers of Rhode Island had inappropriate contact with children at the daycare’s East Greenwich location.
“We did get a call on our hotline and Child Protective Services are investigating,” said DCYF spokesperson Kerri White.
East Greenwich Police also said they are simultaneously investigating.
“A complaint came in and it’s being looked at,” police said.
A source with knowledge of the investigation told NBC 10 two allegations were made about a week ago.
ELC is headquartered on South County Trail in East Greenwich, but has four other locations in Coventry, Barrington, East Providence and Rumford. According to ELC’s website they care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age.
NBC 10 has called ELC for comment and will update the story when they return our call.
