Police donate school supplies to children
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) —
Hundreds of Providence students will be prepared when they go back to school next week.
The Rhode Island State Police and the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association showed off their annual donations through the Kids, Cops and Classrooms program Tuesday.
Backpacks filled with supplies were handed out at the South Side Boys and Girls Club in Providence. All items inside the backpacks were donated, in part by local businesses.
The Rhode Island Attorney General's Office also sponsors the initiative.
In total, about 350 backpacks were handed out.
Tuesday is the first day of classes in Providence public schools.
