One of the contestants on NBC’s “The Voice” who has ties to Rhode Island went head-to-head in a Battle Round showdown Monday night.

Troy Ramey, who graduated from Rogers High School in Newport, competed against Jozy Bernadette and advanced to the next round. They sang "Angel Eyes."

NBC did not show the battle on the broadcast, but it was posted to "The Voice" YouTube channel.

Win or lose, Ramey told NBC 10 News that he’s gaining a lot from the show and enjoying every minute of it.

“It's just been absolutely the most fun I've had in my entire life,” said Ramey.

Ramey, who is on Team Gwen, is in good company, as fellow Rhode Islander Johnny Gates is on the same team.

“Johnny and I have actually become really good friends and he's such an incredible singer and a great guy,” said Ramey. “So we're just kind of all in this together.”

"The Voice" airs at 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC 10.
