Blackstone police said early Monday that they had taken a man into custody after a standoff.

They posted on the department's Facebook page just before 12:30 a.m. that the suspect was taken into custody and that nobody was injured.

Police said 71-year-old Edward Chandler was charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, four counts of possession of a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a Class C substance. Police said Chandler was being held at a hospital for evaluation pending arraignment.

Police said the standoff started at 7:18 p.m. Sunday at a home on Gaskill Street. Blackstone police said they went to the home for a well-being check and that Chandler pulled out a handgun. They said Chandler shut the door and barricaded himself inside.

A SWAT team entered the house at about midnight and took Chandler into custody without incident.

Police said they seized multiple weapons and ammunition.
