CCRI gets the greenlight for new campus in Westerly
WESTERLY, R.I. —
The Community College of Rhode Island will have a new satellite campus in the future - the education institution said Thursday it will be moving forward with plans to build a new facility in Westerly.
The focus of the new campus will be training students in specialized tradesman skills such as carpentry, maritime pipefitting and sheet metal work.
CCRI is partnering with Electric Boat to help design the curriculum.
The Providence Journal reports the campus will be constructed in a vacant train yard near the Connecticut border.
When completed the facility will have 17 classrooms and will accommodate 1,000 students per years.
