Police seek suspect in hit-and-run that seriously injured man
CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WJAR) —
A pedestrian was “seriously injured” in a hit-and-run crash in Central Falls.
Police said they found 65-year-old Joseph Sylvia lying unconscious in the road in front of a home on Rand Street just before 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. They said he “appeared to be suffering from severe injuries.”
Now, police are searching for Angel Otero, 45, who they said was driving a BMW when he struck Sylvia.
“Based on the evidence, investigators were able to determine the type of vehicle involved in the accident as a BMW, and put a BOLO out for such a vehicle with heavy front end damage,” authorities noted in a press release. “Several hours after the accident, members of the patrol bureau located a vehicle matching the description with heavy damage and subsequently seized it.”
But they still can’t find Otero, who authorities described as a Hispanic man with brown eyes and brown hair. He is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds.
Anyone with information about Otero or is whereabouts is asked to contact the Central Falls Police Department at 401-727-7411 or via the anonymous TIPS line at 401-727-7420.
Meanwhile, Sylvia remains at Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.
