Child struck by a car in Fall River, Mass. shopping plaza; Man in custody
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WJAR) —
A 7-year old boy was rushed to the hospital Sunday evening after being hit by a car in Fall River.
The child was struck outside of the Burlington Coat Factory on Mariano Bishop Blvd.
Fall River Police responded to the scene just after 6 p.m. Sunday.
Witness photos obtained by NBC 10 News show a crack in the wall where the car hit the child.
Lt. John DeMello told NBC 10 a 19-year old Fall River man was taken into custody.
The suspect allegedly hit the child and attempted to flee the scene. He then hit three other parked cars.
The driver was quickly apprehended and arrested. He is facing multiple charges, including negligent operation of a vehicle, operating a vehicle without a license, as well as leaving the scene.
Police said more charges might be pending.
The child was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The identities of the victim and suspect have not yet been released.
The incident is under active investigation.
