Coventry nursing home resident accused of sexually assaulting 80-year-old woman
COVENTRY, R.I. (WJAR) —
Police arrested a 74-year-old resident of a Coventry nursing home and rehabilitation center for allegedly sexually assaulting an 80-year-old woman who lives at the same home.
Investigators said Francis Kinsey, a resident at Coventry Center, was arrested Saturday after an employee reported witnessing a first-degree sexual assault allegedly perpetrated by Kinsey.
Authorities said during the investigation they learned that Kinsey had been arrested for first degree child molestation in 2012 in Charlestown. That case is yet to be adjudicated, said police.
“The defendant has experienced significant medical issues over the years as brought forward to the court's attention by defense counsel that has caused delays in the case moving forward,” a spokeswoman for the Rhode Island attorney general told NBC 10 News in a statement.
Kinsey was arraigned in front of a bail commissioner, where he was ordered held at the ACI.
Kinsey will be formally arraigned on the current charges, and presented as a bail violator on the 2012 charges later this week at Kent County Court.
