Driver charged after construction truck hauling back hoe strikes bridge
JOHNSON, R.I. (WJAR) —
A construction truck driver was charged after a back hoe he was hauling struck the Killingly Street bridge in Johnston.
Police said Ulisses Pereira, 34, of Pawtucket, is facing the following charges:
Duty to stop, accident resulting/damage to an attended vehicle
Driving with a suspended license, second offense
Pereira also was issued multiple citations, including driving without a commercial driver’s license, according to authorities.
The construction truck hauling the back hoe was traveling along Killingly Street when the back hoe struck steel framing under the bridge around 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
Rhode Island Department of Transportation bridge inspectors were called to the scene, examining the structural integrity of the bridge.
The truck was removed, with RIDOT inspectors still at the scene late that afternoon.
Pereira was arraigned and later released on personal recognizance.
