Providence firefighter rescued from overturned car on I-95
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) —
Investigators say they don't believe firefighter Derrick Campbell was impaired. State police believe he may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
The firefighter's car rolled over on 95- South near Washington street -- the only car involved in this incident.
Derek Campbell is reportedly okay and recovering now, but back at the scene Campbell was slumped over the wheel when he was rushed to the hospital.
Rhode Island state police say it took nearly 30 minutes to get Campbell out of the car.
According to his public Facebook page, Campbell is from East Providence and studied at URI.
We also reached out to the President of the firefighter's union, they had no comment on the incident.
