A fire broke out Thursday night on the Seekonk River Drawbridge.

Providence firefighters had a hard time getting to the flames, but they were able to douse the fire in about an hour.

It was not immediately known what caused the fire.

Officially the Crook Point Bascule Bridge, the railroad bridge was abandoned in the 1970s and left in the open position to allow boats through.
