Flames tear through tractor-trailer on highway
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WJAR) —
A tractor-trailer truck was damaged by flames on Interstate 295 north in Smithfield Friday.
Rhode Island State Police told NBC 10 News that a mechanical issue caused the fire, which started around 6:45 p.m. near exit 8.
While authorities said the trailer was mostly untouched, the tractor burned to a crisp.
Police said traffic was backed up for three quarters of a mile for approximately 45 minutes.
No one was injured,according to authorities.
