Honeywell to move customer service jobs out of Smithfield
Officials at Honeywell International confirmed to NBC 10 News on Tuesday that they're moving customer service jobs out of Smithfield.
"Honeywell continually evaluates its operations to ensure a competitive business model that is aimed at long-term growth and profitability. After thorough consideration, we have decided to consolidate our Customer Support operations into an existing Honeywell facility to streamline operations and better serve our customers," a spokesman said in a statement. "As a result of this decision, Customer Support jobs in Smithfield will be eliminated with positions being rehired in the other Honeywell facility. The affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for other open positions within Honeywell or will be offered severance. "
The New Jersey-based firm would not say how many Rhode Island jobs are affected.
A company statement said the jobs would be consolidated into another Honeywell facility, but would not detail which facility.
Honeywell closed a Cranston facility in 2015.
