Juvenile charged following Scituate school lockdown
A juvenile was charged in connection to an incident that led to the lockdown of Scituate High School and Middle School, according to authorities.
Police on Thursday said they identified a middle school student who was responsible for starting a rumor about a potential shooing on school grounds a day prior.
“The investigation, led by Scituate Police Department's Juvenile Services Division, determined today that the incident arose from a false rumor started by a student, which was relayed to parents and eventually brought to the attention of the Scituate Middle School yesterday morning,” authorities said. “There is no evidence to believe that there was an imminent threat to any Scituate student.”
Police didn’t not release the juvenile’s name or age.
Authorities said there will be extra police presence at all Scituate schools until classes end on June 20.
