Diver pronounced dead after an attempted Coast Guard water rescue
JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WJAR) —
One man has been pronounced dead after diving in waters near Beavertail State Park.
Lt. John Mansolillo tells NBC 10 the diver was pronounced dead following his arrival at Newport Hospital.
The Coast Guard says the accident happened just before 1pm on Sunday afternoon. Coast Guard officials attempted to rescue the victim and brought him back to shore before being flown to the hospital.
No other information will be available until the Coast Guard has notified the victim's next of kin.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
