Coventry man accused of abusing 11-week-old infant
COVENTRY, R.I. (WJAR) —
An 11-week-old infant from Coventry was taken to a hospital with multiple injuries after suffering from head trauma consistent with shaken baby syndrome, according to authorities.
The Department of Children, Youth and Families on Tuesday reported that the baby, who was "near death," was admitted to Hasbro Children's Hospital's pediatric intensive-care unit Sunday in a potential case of abuse.
The Coventry Police Department, along with DYCY, interviewed the baby’s parents and searched their home.
As a result, 28-year-old Anthony Dicicco, who is the infant’s father, was taken into custody and charged with one count of first degree child abuse. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Kent County Courthouse on Wednesday.
Police said the infant was listed in stable condition Tuesday night “and will remain at Hasbro Children’s Hospital pending additional tests and treatment, as the full extent of the injuries are still being determined.”
The Office of the Child Advocate has also been notified.
