Man sought for 20 years captured in Warwick
Federal prosecutors said Wednesday that a man who's been a fugitive for 20 years was captured in Rhode Island.
The U.S. Department of Justice said Luis Alberto Solano-Pimental, 51, was arrested Tuesday in Warwick after eluding law enforcement for 20 years. A magistrate judge ordered him detained.
The DOJ said Solano-Pimental pleaded guilty in 1997 to passport fraud in federal court in Boston, but failed to appear on his scheduled sentencing date. He remained a fugitive until he was arrested in Warwick.
The charge of passport fraud provides for a sentence of no greater than 10 years in prison, three years of supervised released, and a fine of up to $250,000, the DOJ said in a news release.
