Narragansett educator named RI Teacher of the Year
NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WJAR) —
Rhode Island's 2018 teacher of the year was revealed Thursday.
Kristin Hayes-Leite has taught social studies for 16 years at Narragansett High School.
She was surprised during a school assembly. Faculty members and students were led to believe the gathering was for the school's new $1 million Agriscience Center.
Gov. Gina Raimondo, Education Commissioner Ken Wagner, Narragansett school administrators and last year's teacher of the year were on hand to bestow the honor.
According to a news release, the Rhode Island Teacher of the Year will work with the Rhode Island Department of Education throughout the 2017-18 school year to develop thoughtful policy, lead professional development, and help support education statewide.
