Police: Plainville DPW employee killed in mowing incident

An employee for the Plainville Department of Public Works died Thursday after the lawn tractor he was riding on overturned and landed on him, according to authorities.

Police said 57-year-old David Fiske of Norton was cutting the grass at the town pumping station on Walnut Street when the accident occurred.

A motorist in the area saw the overturned tractor and contacted authorities just before 1:20 p.m., according to authorities.

When firefighters and police arrived at the scene, the man was unconscious.

While they lifted the tractor off the man and performed CPR on him, he was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and later pronounced dead.

The employee’s name has not been released pending family notification.

The incident is under investigation, police said.
