Police identify woman killed in Providence assault

A woman who was killed in a Providence assault has been identified.

Police told NBC 10 News on Monday afternoon that the victim was 29-year-old Justine Cavaco, of Barrington.

Authorities previously said they responded to a parking lot on Broad Street and found a woman in and out of consciousness around 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Witnesses told police a man struck the woman. Bystanders then identified him to police.

Authorities arrested 40-year-old Christian Boucher, of Providence, and charged him with felony assault.

Cavaco was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she later died. Police said they were told she had a history of serious health problems.

Police also noted that charges might be upgraded, pending Cavaco’s autopsy and cause of death.

Boucher is being held without bail.
