The East Providence Police Department is searching for a man who reportedly stole a puppy out of someone's backyard.

Investigators said the puppy was taken at around 8:30 a.m. Monday from a home on Summit Street.

Authorities said a resident witnessed a stranger walk into the backyard and grab the black lab-mix puppy.

The puppy has one blue eye, one brown eye, white fur on its chest, three white paws, and one black paw.

According to police, a resident who was home at the time confronted the suspect before he drove away with the puppy. The suspect apparently claimed he could take better care of it.

Police describe the suspect as a white man in his 20s with light colored hair. Investigators told NBC 10 News the vehicle he drove off in was a silver SUV, possibly a Nissan.

Anyone with information is asked to call the East Providence Police Department at 401-431-1111.
