SeaStreak announced on its website that the Providence-Newport ferry will be out of service on Monday and Tuesday.

The company said the M/V Ocean State is being repaired. SeaStreak said the ferry was damaged late Saturday night as it was about to pass a buoy in Narragansett Bay, when it turned abruptly to avoid another boat. Slight contact was made with the buoy. No one on board was injured.

"It impacted the marker right at the bow, so that's why it's required to go into the shipyard to have some repairs made," said Thomas Wynn, vice president of SeaStreak.

Wynn said damage to the Ocean State was minor and that the ferry should return to service on Wednesday or Thursday. Passengers with existing reservations have been notified and they will get refunds.

The ferry began seasonal service on Friday.

A one-way trip costs $10 for adults and $5 for children. Round-trip tickets are available for $20 for adults and $10 for children.
