The Rehoboth Police Department is cracking down on drivers putting themselves and others in danger.

The department is increasing the number of patrols on local roads after being awarded a special grant from the Highway Safety Division of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

The department will look out for impaired and distracted drivers.

“We did a few sting operations,” Patrolman Louis DiBacco explained. “Officers in plain clothes were watching vehicles as they passed. If someone was texting they were radioing to officers up the road. They made the stop, issuing citations and verbal warnings.”

Rehoboth is one of more than 200 local police departments across the state and the state participating in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement mobilization.
