RISP identify driver critically injured in Route 146 accident in North Smithfield
North Smithfield, R.I. —
Rhode Island State Police have released the name of the motorist critically injured in a two-car crash on Route 146 in North Smithfield Tuesday.
She is identified as 18-year-old Victoria L. Demers, 18, of Sutton Massachusetts.
Demers was driving north on Route 146 near the Pound Hill Road exit when she lost control of her car, which struck the median and crashed into another car in the travel lane around 10:10 a.m.
She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where she remained in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.
The driver of the second car was identified as 23-year-old Maria Ortiz, 23, of Central Falls. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
State Police Capt. Matthew Moynihan said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
