Selection process for new state slogan unclear
Gov. Gina Raimondo will meet with regional tourism directors this week to try to restart the statewide tourism campaign that was marred with a disastrous rollout March 28.
The directors were shown the controversial logo and slogan in early March, but were not involved in the creation or approval of either, said Bob Billington, director of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council.
"We weren't involved in the development," Billington told NBC 10 News.
He said he recognized that "they had spent a lot of time and a lot of money" and that he was ready to support the campaign that was to accompany the logo.
Now that the slogan is back for a redesign, Billington is not concerned. He said he always thought the campaign was the important issue, not the slogan. And moving forward he said he's happy to be "focused on getting the rollout of the campaign, that's most important."
The state has not described how the new slogan will be selected.
