Shark season begins with 1st white shark detected off Cape Cod
Swimming season is here -- as is the white shark.
The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy on Thursday confirmed the first white shark sighting of the 2017 season.
“Two sharks detected on the shark Cove receiver, with the first on June 2,” the organization posted on Twitter.
Scratchy the shark, who the organization first tagged in 2014, was the first shark detected for the second year in a row. Scratchy was spotted just off the coast of Chatham on Cape Cod.
So far, Scatchy's been back four times.
The conservancy said more white sharks than usual are seen on Cape Cod in the past few years, including more than 147 last summer alone.
